Deafening Silence – now I get it!

I used to wonder why so many people were so silent in the face of injustice, political corruption, biased news reports, hypocrisy and double standards.  Must be chickens I told myself. Hmm. That’s not me.  I’m not afraid!  I may be a grandmother but really, I am only sixteen.

As I have told you in my blogs this past year, internet, social media, facebook are all new to me.  When my publisher told me ten months ago that I had to develop a following to help promote The Third Hole (so far so good in the sales department) and use my real name, that was great.  What fun!  I’ll just comment and write blogs and say anything I want.  After all, this is a free country and as long as I don’t use bad words or tell lies, it will be perfect.

The adventure began and has continued.  I have written a couple of blogs over the past few months that highlight what I call “the uglies” – nasty, insulting personal attacks on moi by wannabees hiding behind false user names.  By now, some of those names are familiar so I guess they are part of my following.  It never takes more than 5 minutes after my comments are posted til I hear from them.

I love the verbal sparring though I really do get ticked off on occasion, but it is nice to know that even though I am a Senior, I still hear and respond to the bell for the next round. The large number of ‘likes’ on my comments is also encouraging and gives me more confidence to attack my attackers.

Soooo?  What’s up?

I am not so sure I have gone about this the right way.  Remember those words of wisdom so many of us got from our parents when we were kids?  “Don’t sink to their level” – “sticks and stones” – “don’t dignify their raving and ranting with a response” – “don’t call people pigs”.

So now I am going to share three more uglies with you – but what is bothering me is the poison response my first blog listed here.  It is not combative, controversial or insulting.  So why did it provoke such poison from someone?  Maybe it is just a nutbar responding because no one knows who they really are – or maybe it just wouldn’t matter what I wrote.  What do you think?

First one:

Second hand smoke can cause physical problems for those who are subjected to it – if a smoker wants to risk lung cancer or emphysema, that is their choice – but they cannot be allowed to put anyone else at risk

well Patricia – when you pack your face full of junk food – as evidenced by that chunky pic of you – and fart, you pollute our world.stop it.

now go stand in your cage.

Now, could this person be normal?  What did I say about second hand smoke to rile him up so much?  So for the first time in almost a year, I decided to let it go and not respond.  But I tell you, I wanted to, even though this would be a perfect example of sinking down to a very low level if I did.

Next one:

Politicians like McGuinty and now McWynne do their thing because they can – who is going to stop them? 30% of the electorate? They know that too many of us don’t bother to vote – and using the excuse that “there isn’t anyone I want to vote for” only extends the term of office for the “I don’t remember, I didn’t do anything wrong” politicians – they know that incumbents are most likely to be re-elected if only 30% of the voters show up – E Health, Ornge, Unions, $580 million down the tube – isn’t it enough already?

let us not forget the Ontario Place corruption and fraud that you played such a large part in.

Now this guy has definitely got a screw loose – Ontario Place had a very successful 3 years during my chairmanship – even the Toronto Star gave us all kudos for it way back then– but I will not reply…or should I?

So all you Liberal lovers out there – I guess it’s okay as long as you don’t live in Toronto – Sousa and McWynne – McGuinty’s pets – I wonder where they will hide this $100 million after they just blow it – maybe they will bring in exotic dancers to help in the 4 upcoming byelections – anything to distract the voters from what the Liberals have done to this Province – and I’ll bet McWynne cringed when she saw the standing ovation the Mayor got when he arrived at the Pride week kick-off – I wonder if she blasted her friends for doing that – ah what fun this next year is going to be

Wow Patty are you desperate.
Blowhard Ford will never participate in the Pride Parade.
The gay community knows that and won’t forget.
The bottom line here is that Blowhard is a lame duck mayor, without the votes on council to do anything and he’ll be run out of city hall on a rail in 14 months.
Wynne on the other hand has her party back on top of the polls and is the most popular party leader in Ontario.
Blowhard has no future.
Wynne has a future.

Now I understand why some people keep their mouths shut, no matter what.  It is a bit scary when one gets these kinds of responses to opinions – my comments are judgemental – and the response should be as well.  But name calling?

I was wrong to sink to the same level.  I won’t be doing that anymore.
